How to Throw an Incredible At Home 2021 New Year's Party for Your Household.
2020, was a crazy year. And while we all want to rage the night away with our friends saying goodbye to 2020 forever, most of us are stuck at home and unable to party with anyone.
So how do we make this night special and a bit different from our usual weekends of drinking and eating with our regular household?
What can we do at home for 2021 New Year’s Eve at home?
Well, the key to making a night memorable is doing something different and out of the norm, something a little out of your comfort zone, lots of good food, drinks, music, and community. I will break down how we’re making sure our at home New Year’s celebration has all these things below!
Here is what my household is doing to switch things up for 2021 New Year’s at home.
Have a Fancy Dress Code.
We’re getting fancy as heck! Yes, there is really no point except the fact that there was no point to dress up all year long. May as well get fancy as heck the last night of the year!
I’ll be wearing a sparkly gold dress with makeup fully done.
Do you, but I recommend dressing up in a way you haven’t really all year long. Golden high heels in the house all night long? Sure! Haven’t worn them all year anyway!
Have a Flaming Signature Drink.
If you take away anything from this post, let it be this. The featured drink we will be making will be named “Dumpster Fire,” and it will literally be flaming.
This is irregular, as we never create flaming drinks at home. Also, serving flaming alcohol is out of my comfort zone, so it’s a win-win.
It also happens to be very symbolic of the year 2020!
Lighting something on fire at the end of the year, I believe, will feel quite cathartic. Just please be careful and don’t burn your house down.
Let the Tik Tok Music Play!
It’s a comforting thought to realize that millennials around the world now have TikTok songs in common (beyond just the 90s music most of us know and love).
Whether you are a TikTok dance pro or have never attempted a TikTok dance in your life. New Year’s Eve might be the night to try to perfect one with your household, after you’ve had a few flaming cocktails, of course.
Have a bunch of cute little appetizers to eat all night long.
Whether you want to make these all yourself or order them in on your next grocery haul, I recommend having fancier than usual little appetizers to treat yourselves with.
Little hors d'oeuvre to make yourself feel A) fancy and B) like you are at a real holiday party!
Even if the food truly isn’t that fancy, put a toothpick in it and put it on a fancy plate.
Boom, it’s fancy.

Be Artistic and Cultured at home for 2021.
Remember those wine and paint events people would go to back in 2019? Well here’s our 2021 New Year’s Eve at-home version of that!
We’re going to have a couple of canvases, acrylic paint, and play-dough available for the members of our household.
The theme of the painting night will be thoughts and feelings of 2020. You can be as dark or as silly as you want with this. After about an hour or so, we will display each member’s art piece on the walls.
Then with a drink in hand, we will all admire the works of art and comment on the artist’s obvious torment seen by the brush strokes and somber colors. We will muse about their feelings and obvious inner turmoil.
We can feel deep and cultured in a year when going out to cultural events such as shows, galleries, concerts, etc, were pretty much inaccessible to us.
Have a 2020 Cleansing Ritual for New Year’s Eve at Home.
You can get as creative as you want with this really. Smudge the home. Create a dance. Light some candles. Burn some incense, etc.
I’m planning on giving each member of the household a small spray bottle of rose water with essential oil and a stick of incense to burn.
We will then cleanse ourselves of 2020 together, probably around 11:45 PM.
We will spray our sprays, burn our incense, take a shot of fancy liquor, and say goodbye to 2020 together.
Whether you are religious or spiritual or not, I think it would be fun to say some kind of prayer, chant, quote, or benediction before taking your shots. Whether these chants or quotes be pre-existing or made up on the spot, is up to you. Here, here!
You can easily order these items online or find extremely cheap versions of everything at your local dollar store. It just depends on what you are willing to spend.
Send Your Homies Video Messages or Facetime them Quickly!
Let’s not bother trying to have online zoom parties or awkward long glitchy FaceTime chats. We’re all tired of Zoom and it has no place being part of your New Year’s 2021 Party celebration. Sending your love to someone need not take all night.
Video chat your homies or leave them cute video messages for them to see in the morning.
Drunken Facetime calls should definitely be part of your 2021 New Year’s Celebrations! Wish people well. Tell them you miss them. Tell them you are there for them in this new year despite the distance and remind them they are loved.
