Easy Spicy Vegan Agedashi Tofu - An amazing high protein vegan snack or party platter!
These came to me in the spur of the moment. I was absolutely starving and I needed something NOW. I felt like I had accidentally not eaten much protein all day so ideally wanted something high protein and quick. I opened my fridge and found..
Sunrise Tofu Puffs!
Bingo, I decided to make a lazy vegan version of one of my favorite foods, spicy tofu agedashi!
Is Ageedashi Tofu Healthy?
Looking at the package I realized that one full package has 22 grams of protein, 260 calories, and only 4 grams of carbohydrates. It also happens to have 16% of your daily iron intake.
I don’t know where people fall on caring about ‘fat’ count, some people try to hit high numbers while some prefer low, if you were to eat a full package it would be about 18 grams of fat.
I’d still call it a win-win-win-win.
Is agedashi tofu vegan?
Shockingly and sadly, usually not! Most dashi’s (Japanese soup broth) is made with some kind of fish for added flavor. Some are vegetarian but I find it rare to find a regular Japanese restaurant that uses vegetarian/vegan dashi for their dishes. Also if they have dried bonito flakes on top, this is not vegan as this also comes from fish.
Hence why the texture, ease, and taste of this completely vegan agedashi tofu replacement is incredible!

spicy vegan Agedashi tofu - Impressive, Addicting, and Cheap.
I can see myself eating a whole package of these after a gym session. These packages are usually only around $3 CAD so that’s pretty affordable!
These would look extremely impressive as an appetizer or vegan party platter when friends are over, clearly just buy a few more packages. The sweet and spicy goodness of these vegan fake-away spicy agedashi tofu puffs is very addicting, so make sure to make a lot!
Next time I would make a home-made avocado roll or cone, some miso soup, this spicy agedashi tofu, and call it a sushi date!
ENJOY!
